Common questions

The map is empty, or a layer is missing.

Layers depend on satellite passes. Cloud cover can hide chlorophyll for a day or more, and some layers are marked stale or hidden entirely when the upstream data is late — we would rather show you nothing than show you a guess. The freshness badge on the map tells you the date and age of what you are looking at.

Can I use it offshore, past cell coverage?

Yes. Catches you log without a signal are saved on the device and sync when you are back in coverage. Downloaded offline map regions keep working with no connection.

Why is a catch spot not exactly where I caught the fish?

Any catch that is shared is displaced by a random 200 m–2 km offset, and aggregate views only appear once enough separate captains contribute. Your own catches always show you their true position. Sharing is off by default and always your call.

How do I manage or cancel a subscription?

Subscriptions are billed by Apple, so they are managed in your Apple account (Settings → your name → Subscriptions on iOS). Cancelling stops the renewal; access continues to the end of the paid period. Restore Purchases in the app re-links an existing subscription to a new device.

How do I delete my account and data?

In the app: Settings → Delete account. This permanently removes your account, catches, trips, and photos. It cannot be undone. If you cannot reach the app, email support@breakiq.app from your account's address and we will do it for you.

How accurate are the predictions?

We publish our own accuracy numbers rather than asking you to trust a claim, including the misses. Predictions are a starting point for where to look — not a guarantee, and never a substitute for your own judgement on the water.

Where the data comes from

Sea-surface temperature, chlorophyll, sea-surface height, currents, and wind/wave come from public NOAA, NASA, and Copernicus Marine sources. Bathymetry is GEBCO. Gulf Stream frontal analysis is NOAA OPC.

Not for navigation. BreakIQ is a fishing-intelligence tool. Depth contours and charts are derived from public bathymetry and are not a navigational chart. Always navigate with proper charts and equipment.
